On our first day in Dublin, the sun was shining – a rare sight, according to everyone we had spoken to before arriving. We couldn’t help but think, “Maybe the Irish weather isn’t as gloomy as they say!” Of course, the following day it rained, but that’s part of Dublin’s charm. By now, we’ve realized that the weather is almost a metaphor for the city itself: unpredictable, dynamic, and full of surprises.
From the very beginning of our year abroad, we’ve been discovering Dublin layer by layer. The city is vibrant, friendly, and full of life. One of our first stops was the Temple Bar District, the heartbeat of Dublin’s music and pub scene. Live music spills out of almost every corner, blending traditional Irish tunes with contemporary songs. The atmosphere is infectious, and it’s easy to strike up a conversation with locals or fellow travellers. Even on busy evenings, there’s a sense of spontanity and warmth that makes the hustle feel welcoming rather than overwhelming.
Whenever we need a break from the crowds, we head to Phoenix Park. It’s enormous, offering endless paths for walking, jogging, or simply lying on the grass and soaking up whatever sun appears. The park is also home to freely roaming deer, which adds a surreal, almost magical feeling to a simple stroll. On sunny days, it’s the perfect spot for a picnic or just a quiet pause after a busy day at work.
