Christmas holidays: "I am very excited to be home for a while"

Hi, my name is Jasmin and I am 18 years old. I am currently living in London for five months to improve my English and to gain work experience in another country.

I have been working at my work placement here in London for about three months now and I have been really enjoying it. I work at a company called M&D Properties which is a property development firm. So basically, what they do is look for underdeveloped land and then try to add value to it by building something new or by redeveloping something existing. I am able to complete a variety of tasks. My days are never the same, which makes working here very interesting. I have also been able to gain a lot of knowledge, as I have not had any experience in the property business before I started my internship here. Another thing that I enjoy about the company is the working environment. I work in a rather small, but extremely cosy office and we are only three people working in this office. The rest of the team is based in a different location. Overall, I am very satisfied with my work placement.

On Friday we took our BEC Higher exams. We had to travel to south London, where the Cambridge exam centre is located. I think we all felt a slight bit nervous about the exam and are very relieved that it is completed. Now we just have to wait for our results, which we should be getting in about a month.

In my free time and on the weekends I still really enjoy exploring central London and hanging out with my friends. There is so much to do and see in this city, it definitely doesn’t get boring here. Other than going to the centre we also like to meet up in a café and just talk about our work placement or discuss other topics.

I am staying with a lovely host family. They live in an area called Crouch End, which is a very nice area of London. It is also fairly close to both my work and to central London. They live in a lovely house and they also have a dog. They have been very inviting and friendly from the beginning.

Now we are only here for one more week until we are going back to Switzerland for our Christmas holidays. I am very excited to be home for a while and to be able to spend time with my family and friends. I am sure all of us will have a lovely time.

Merry Christmas!
